Our story

It started with a corneron West 4th.

Ron Savell had a restaurant in mind for 4th Street and 40th Avenue back in 2012. It took a chance meeting at somebody else's opening night to make it real.

The whole staff and a crowd of guests gathered outside for a ribbon-cutting, cooks in aprons among them

A chance meeting at a grand opening

In January 2013, Ron ran into Josh and Crystal Rogers at the grand opening of Brewsky's. Josh brought the kitchen and the menu; Ron brought the corner he'd been picturing for a year. Patio 44 opened in Hattiesburg not long after.

Josh Rogers is Executive Chef and Partner. Ron Savell is Co-Owner. Crystal Rogers co-founded the restaurant alongside them, and the three of them still set what goes on the menu.

The kitchen

Delta and Gulf Coast, mostly

The menu leans on what's close: Mississippi farm-raised catfish, Gulf shrimp and redfish, crawfish, andouille and tasso ham. The gouda grits turn up under half the plates and are the single thing guests ask about most.

Two dishes carry no printed price — the crab claws, and whatever the boat landed that morning. The kitchen sets those daily rather than printing a number it can't stand behind.

A busy bar mid-service — guests along the rail, a chef in whites leaning across to talk to two of them

Service

Most nights, the bar is the loudest room

Fourteen seats along the rail, the wine glasses racked overhead, and whatever's on the televisions. It fills before the dining room does and stays full after it empties.

You don't need a reservation to sit there, and it's the same full menu.
